Todd Caliva is the Chief Executive Officer of HCA affiliated West Houston Medical Center. Mr. Caliva joined WHMC in 2006 after serving for three years as CEO of HCA affiliated East Houston Regional Medical Center. Mr. Caliva has more than 22 years of healthcare experience, including Chief Operating Officer of The Woman’s Hospital of Texas and Administrator of Sugar Land Surgery and Diagnostic Center. In his role as CEO at WHMC, Mr. Caliva is committed to the people of West Houston and dedicated to providing families with quality, state-of-the-art healthcare in a warm, caring environment.
Under Mr. Caliva’s leadership, the hospital was named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission. WHMC was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance for its use of evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care. WHMC is the only primary acute care hospital in Houston to receive Top Performer distinction in all four areas for three consecutive years.
West Houston Medical Center has also been designated a Pathway to Excellence® organization by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), which demonstrates WHMC’s commitment to creating a work environment where nurses flourish, leading to improved nurse satisfaction, patient satisfaction, and quality of care.
Always working to ensure the best possible care for his community, Mr. Caliva led the way in a $72 million expansion project, completed in 2012, that included the addition of a three-story tower. West Houston now offers expanded Cardiovascular and Women’s Services care, and an established affiliation with The Woman’s Hospital of Texas.
Mr. Caliva co-chairs the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council (SETRAC) Cardiac Care Committee, an organization that coordinates efforts between agencies to provide the best cardiac intervention and treatment possible for Houston communities. Mr. Caliva also serves as the President/Chairman of the Educational Foundation of the Southeast Texas Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
In 2011, Mr. Caliva served as President/Chairman of the Southeast Texas Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and as chairman of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Caliva is a graduate of the West Houston Leadership Institute, and is the recipient of a Houston West Chamber of Commerce Impact Award in honor of his contributions to business development in the community.
Mr. Caliva holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston. He is the proud parent of two daughters, Sophie and Cara.
